STOP SOPA & PIPA
Posted by Black Ninja on Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Dear Sir,
I am an 18 year-old Canadian, and I oppose SOPA and PIPA. By making it possible to take down social media giants such as Youtube and any blogging sites, the individual rights of people to free speech and self actualization are being spat upon. The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms Part 1.2b says that Everyone has the freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication. This bill regarding SOPA/PIPA goes against all the principles that Canada was founded upon.
When Canada was founded it was as a democracy, where every person had the same rights as everyone else. By supporting and/or standing while others support the passing of this bill is tantamount to allowing the rights of Canadians and all other people world-wide to be spat upon. Although this bill is not to my knowledge being considered here in Canada it still has the ability to shutdown many of the site on the internet which is one of the major providers of a voice to people around the world. The idea of giving one country the ability to do this is very irresponsible.
Because of this I urge you very strongly to do everything in your power to oppose SOPA and PIPA as it is a threat to human rights worldwide.
Sincerely,
Karl Engen
